Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center 

The University of Nebraska Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center is located in Mead, Nebraska. The ENREEC is home to a wide array of research projects and educational programs and leverages existing land and facilities to enhance and expand this work. The site consists of approximately 9,663 acres, about half of which is in row crops. Over 6,000 domestic farm animals reside onsite as well. Learn about integrated research efforts in cropping and water systems, livestock systems, horticulture, landscape and environmental systems. Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium 

Travel to Omaha to experience Nebraska’s #1 tourist attraction and one of the top five zoos in the United States. Built on 160 acres near the Missouri River, the Henry Doorly Zoo features an indoor rainforest, desert dome and nighttime creatures exhibits, aquarium and world-class exhibits. The zoo focuses on animal and habitat conservation efforts as part of a vigorous program of scientific investigation. Homestead National Monument 

Travel to Beatrice, Nebraska, to visit Homestead National Historic Park. This national park explores the history of the Homestead Act of 1862 and how it transformed the Great Plains and the landscape of Nebraska. Visit the Homestead Heritage Center to learn more about the act and scope and significance of it in the mapping of agriculture and boundaries in the Great Plains, plus explore cabins and schools utilized by those building their homes and communities. Walk the trails and experience the tallgrass prairie as it looked to the Indigenous people and arriving homesteaders. Cost: $50.00.

Lauritzen Gardens 

Travel to Omaha to visit the Lauritzen Gardens Botanical Center. Lauritzen Gardens is nestled by the Missouri River and has a biodiversity inventory of garden plantings, landscape features and natural areas that is home to many birds and butterfly species. Explore the 100 acres of gardens via foot and a guided tram tour. Cost: $65.00
