On behalf of the co-organizers, the International Scientific Committee, the North American Scientific Committee, and the Local Organizing Committee, we cordially invite you to the 26th International Symposium on Plant Lipids (ISPL), July 14-19, 2024. ISPL returns to North America since our 2014 conference in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, and to the United States since our 2006 conference in East Lansing, Michigan, USA. The 2024 venue is the Nebraska Union on the City Campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska. Lincoln is a thriving city of 290,000 people in the Heartland of the United States that is nestled in some of the most productive agricultural land in the world. Lincoln has many restaurants and museums for you to enjoy during your stay. Exciting excursions to a few of our local attractions are planned including opportunities to visit one of the top zoos in the U.S., a working farm, and prairie land.
ISPL will mark its 50th year of highly productive interactions with this gathering in Lincoln. First held in 1974 in Norwich, UK, the international plant lipid community has continued to come together - both senior and junior scientists - in a collegial atmosphere for the exchange of ideas about the structure, function and metabolism of plant lipids. Over the years, the perspective of the science presented at the ISPL has evolved, embracing modern methods of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology. Some of the early exciting biotechnology results in oilseed engineering were announced first at the ISPL. In 2008, ISPL began the Paul Stumpf Award to honor promising early-career plant lipid researchers. This award honors the landmark contributions of Paul Stumpf (University of California-Davis) to plant lipid biochemistry and allows the recipient who receives this award the opportunity to present their research at the ISPL meeting. The Paul Stumpf awardee shares the stage with the Terry Galliard Medal winner, an award given to a more senior researcher for their career achievements in plant lipid biochemistry. This award is named for Terry Galliard who organized the first ISPL, and it has been awarded since 1994.
To learn more about the history of ISPL, we welcome you to enjoy this review by the 2004 Galliard Medal laureate Professor Hartmut Lichtenthaler.
The deadline for submission of a paper abstract to be considered for an oral presentation is May 1, 2024, and the deadline for submitting a poster abstract is June 15, 2024. Selected paper and poster presenters will be notified within two weeks following the established deadlines. Final confirmation as a selected presenter is contingent on the completion of conference registration.
We hope to see you in Lincoln in July 2024!
